Let's roll!

Now that school has begun, the local skating rink will be opening once again.
Prineville's skating rink is located inside the Crooked River Elementary School's gym.
This year the rink will have a new manager, Alexia Meyer, who used to be a competition skater, and competed in national skating championships.
"She's going to bring a whole new twist to the rink," said Karen Bee from the Crook County Parks and Recreation office.
"I used to do nation-wide competitions, fund-raisers, and other fun things like that," Meyer said. "I want to bring that into the Prineville, Crook County community. It was a great experience that I was involved in, I would just like to share that here."
According to Meyer, the rink will benefit the community by "keeping kids involved, and giving them something to do."
The rink will have some changes this year.
One thing that is different is that on Fridays it will only be open for middle and high school kids, and they will be required to show their student body cards. It will be open from 6 to 9 p.m.
On Saturday it will be open from 4 to 6 p.m. to everyone fifth grade and lower. Children 5 and under must be accompanied by an adult that is 18 years of age or older; first through fifth grade may skate alone.
"We're trying to serve the kids better," Bee said. "So there's a time for younger kids and a time for older kids."
Another thing that is new is the pricing, which is now based on living in the Parks and Recreation district.
On Friday night, residents living in the district and that possess an in district card, which can be acquired at the Parks Office for free, pay $4. Residents residing outside of the district, or if no card is possessed will pay $5.
On Saturday, in district residents and cardholders pay $3, while out of district, or those who don't have a card pay $4.
The first big event that is coming up is the Halloween skating party. It will be on Oct. 27 and 28. The price will be $5 for in district cardholders, and $6 for everyone else.
The second big event will be the New Year's Eve party, which will bring in the new year, and be the same cost as the Halloween party. "We will provide pizza, noise-makers and things like that," Meyer said. "These (Halloween and New Year's parties) are special events with extra games and things going on."
The rink will open at 6 p.m. next Friday. "We're looking forward to seeing everyone down there," Meyer said. "We have a lot of fun things planned for the future."
