Keep up the good work

In changing Charles Dickens famous line from A Tale of Two Cities, we can only say it is the worst of times. It is the best of times.

In spite high unemployment, unprecedented foreclosure rates, and an uncertain economic future for Oregon, the people of Crook County are once again showing their grit, determination, and ability to pull together to make things happen.

As has happened in past hard times the community has pulled together. Just look at all the positive things that are happening community wide this summer.

Crook County Connects was a resounding success. Due to the generosity of service providers in the community, people were able to get medical, dental, optical, and veterinarian help, as well as a host of other services at no cost to either the participants or the tax payer.

Last week saw the Crooked River Roundup, Western Daze, the Rock Hound Pow Wow, and carnival all go off without a hitch. The community lined the streets twice last week as the annual cattle drive and Crooked River Roundup Parade came through town.

The annual fireworks display will blast off of the top of viewpoint on Independence Day.

Picnic in the park is scheduled to resume on Wednesday evenings, beginning July 7, when Curtis Salgado comes to town to perform. The concerts continue weekly through August 25 when headliner Billy Dean is scheduled to perform.

Pari-Mutuel racing is scheduled to return to town starting Wednesday, July 14, and will run through Saturday, July 17. Also coming to the fairgrounds will be Pee Wee rodeo action July 30-31, and the Crook County Fair, Aug. 4-7.

In addition Crook County residents have generously helped to support Crook County High School and Middle School athletic programs, with scheduled fundraisers continuing throughout the summer.

As has happened countless times in the past Crook County has continued to show its resilience, and ability to step up and make things happen. As citizens of the community you are to be congratulated. Thank all of you for the support and involvement in local events and programs.

Keep in mind that there is always more work to be done, and volunteers are constantly needed. We encourage you to keep up the good work and stay involved.
