You are the last part of the democratic process

On Tuesday evening, the ballot boxes will be closed, and votes will be counted which will determine the future of our city, county, and state.
This mid-term election has seen both good campaigns in addition to some outright deplorable tactics employed.
Like many people, we're more than a little relieved that this election is finally going to come to a close.
However, you are the most important part of this process.
Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury has predicted that 71 percent of Oregon's registered voters will be casting ballots in this election.
In contrast, the volunteer group, Onward Oregon, has predicted a low turnout using a Jackson County ballot return of only 9 percent as of Oct. 27, as evidence of what the rest of the state may do.
Although ballot returns here in Crook County have been much higher, the staff at Onward Oregon made a good point, when they stated that your vote actually has more of an impact when the voter turnout is less. That's great if everything on the ballot goes your way, but if you're not the gambling type, the best thing you can do is fill out your ballot and get it turned in prior to the Tuesday, Nov. 7, 8 p.m. deadline.
We can all wish for better candidates to come along and better ballot measures being offered to us, but in the meantime, we encourage you to exercise your right to vote.
After all, the only thing at stake is the future of your city, county, and state.

Go to top.
