Better scheduling of city council work sessions needed

Prineville City Council recently decided to hold work sessions, or informational meetings, in addition to their regularly scheduled meetings.
It makes sense to continue using work sessions as a tool to gather, discuss and understand information, but not at 5:30 p.m. the day of the meeting.
It would be wise to schedule these sessions every other week, at 7:30 p.m., at City Hall in Council Chambers.
The session could be conducted during the "off weeks" of city council.
This way both council members and the public could better plan if the subject of the work session is of interest.
We would also propose, instead of the non-informative "work session" listed at the top of the city council agenda, at least give an idea of the topic to be discussed and post it on the City of Prineville's Web site.
These information sessions provide valuable public information to both council members and to the public at large, and therefore need to be scheduled at a time that encourages attendance and participation. We feel the present scheduling does not serve the public's best interests and needs to be re-evaluated.
There is no guarantee that citizens will attend these work sessions if they were indeed re-scheduled, but a more feasible time would definitely encourage more public participation.

Go to top.
