Andrew Claflin poses with his newly-shorn locks which he will donate to Locks of Love.
By Chad Richins

Andrew Claflin, a 17-year-old high school junior, recently went the extra mile for a program that helps children with cancer feel better about themselves.
Claflin grew his hair out for over three years in order to donate it to Locks of Love, a not-for-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children with medical hair loss.
Each piece requires about four months to produce and the donated hair needs to be at least 10 inches long and free of dye or other chemical treatments.
When Andrew walked into Tramps Salon in Prineville on Wednesday, his hair was down to the middle of his back. His mother and father were on hand for the cutting, with cameras at the ready.
After the log ponytail was shorn off, a hair stylist made sure Andrew was happy with his new, much shorter, hairstyle.
