Twenty-five 4-H members representing Oregon State University Extension Service 4-H Youth Development programs in 15 Oregon counties have been chosen as Oregon Delegates to the National 4-H Congress, according to the State 4-H Youth Development office.
Among those selected to represent Oregon at the 4-H Congress is Crook County 4-H member Leyla Estes of Prineville. The Oregon delegation will join senior 4-H youth from across the United States and Puerto Rico at the Congress, which is the 4-H Youth program's premier annual event. National 4-H Congress will be held in Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 29 - Dec. 3, 2002.
"The 4-Hers selected to attend this year's Congress are amazing young people," said Mary Arnold, OSU Extension Service 4-H Youth Development specialist. "The leadership, citizenship and overall community involvement of each of the delegates is quite impressive."
"Attending the 4-H Congress as an Oregon Delegate is one of the pinnacles of a 4-H member's experience, and we are delighted to be able to provide this experience for such an outstanding group," Arnold added.
The theme of this year's Congress is "Celebrate the Possibilities." While at Congress, youth participate in a program of educational and cultural experiences, large-scale community service activities, and opportunities to cultivate the powerful voice of youth in leadership, according to Arnold.
The selection of the delegation is based on the delegate's achievement in 4-H projects, communication, citizenship, leadership, community service, and readiness to benefit from the Congress experience.
