In my article over the next few months, the Central Oregonian and I will be interviewing the members of the Prineville City Council. We hope to try and give you, the people of Prineville, a better understanding of not only who they are, but also what they do and maybe even some of their opinions on certain issues. For the first article we will start with the mayor's position (I never was good at rock, paper, scissors). Then we will be looking at two councilors at a time over the next few months. I hope at the end of this experiment you will have a better idea of who represents you on the city council and appreciate what they do for you and our community. Thanks and let the games begin. 1) What work and life experiences do you bring to the city council? Having lived and worked in Prineville most of my life I know what it's like to grow up in a small town. Now, raising a family with my wife Tina, has given me an appreciation for why I was raised here (thanks again, mom). This is a great community to live, work and play. 2) How much time do you commit each month to being the mayor of Prineville? The mayor's position is one that I believe is not just a position that I could say takes a certain amount of hours, I believe the mayor's position is 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I have always been taught to give back to my community and what better way to do that than being the mayor. 3) The city council recently repealed its decision to install a median strip on Third Street. What are your thoughts on this, and are you in support of a median strip? I voted no the first time on the center median strip and I will do it again! 4) What values do you believe Prineville needs to incorporate into the community's future? Good values are the things that make this community a great place. Family, safety and the small community life-style are some of the reasons why people want to live here. As a community, we need to hold on to our values for ourselves and encourage others that want to move here to have these values also. If we give up our values we are just another fast growing city. Prineville is a lifestyle not just a city. Mike Wendel is the mayor of Prineville. He can be reached at 447-5627. |
