While the parks in Prineville may represent one of our most visited urban forest areas, backyards and downtown forests are also important parts of the urban forest system.

   The Sage Hens and Grousers Garden Club will meet at Elkins Rock Shop starting at 7 p.m. Members will go to the home of Lyle Hibbards to learn a new method of growing vegetables.

   The students of Prineville's Michal Clauson will hold a piano recital at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church starting at 7 p.m. Tunes from boogie to classical to contemporary will be part of the offerings. Everyone is welcome to attend and there is no charge for admission.

   Crook County Library's Summer Reading Program gets started with a puppet show, craft project and story reading fun. The program starts at 6:30 p.m. for children ages 3 and older. Call the library at 447-7978.

   The annual Jewelry, Gem and Mineral Show will get started at the Crook County Fairgrounds starting at 9 a.m. Vendors from all over the world will present selections of jewelry, gems, beads and rough rock. Free admission. Call 318-5800 for more information.
