Jackie McCabe, Dianne and Chuck Giovanine, Helen Meteer, Mike McCabe and Margaret Riney help with ham dinner.

For the first time since 1995 the St. Joseph's Altar Society and the Knights of Columbus will be heating up the kitchen for their St. Patrick's Day Ham Dinner.
The public dinner had been a Prineville tradition for fifty years with the first being celebrated in an Army barracks during World War II, in the location where the Prineville City Hall currently stands.
The tradition endured several decades, moving in location from the Masonic Hall in the late 1940's to the church basement in the 1950's, and finally to the Parish Hall following the completion of its construction in 1965.
During this time the Knights of Columbus were instituted in Prineville and they joined the Altar Society in preparing and serving the dinner.
On the 50th anniversary of the dinner in 1995 the Altar Society felt that the landmark was the "Golden Opportunity" to conclude the event.
The six year break in the tradition is being brought to an end in 2002 as the joint effort of the Altar Society and Knights of Columbus are rekindling the St. Patrick's Day Ham Dinner. Scheduled for Sunday March 17, St. Patrick's Day will be celebrated in the traditional way, with a ham dinner.
The meal is open to the public and will be served from noon until 5 p.m. at the St. Joseph's Parish Hall located on E 1st Street. Tickets cost $6/adults, ages 6-12 are $2 and children under six are free. There will also be a drawing for a special grand prize.
For more information about the dinner contact Jessie Sharp at 447-7438.
