Prineville Funeral Home’s John Lawrence is the newest member of the Cemetery Board.

John Lawrence is the newest member of the Crook County Cemetery Board as of February 13. He was appointed to the board and will serve out three years of a four year term of a recently vacated position.
The cemetery and the cemetery board tend to be the type of subjects folks only think about when such services are needed, or when a problem arises. But, according to the newest member of the board, the function of the organization goes well beyond the obvious.
It is the duty of the cemetery board to manage the $200,000 plus cemetery budget.
The board is not regulated by any governmental body, and members are appointed by voters. It meets monthly on the second Thursday of the month at the cemetery office.
Lawrence, general manager of Prineville Funeral Home, explained that the cemetery board oversees five cemeteries in Crook County including those in Paulina and at Howard near Ochoco Ranger Station, as well as Juniper Haven Cemetery.
"I've been at the funeral home for the last two and a half years, and have dealt with a number of issues involving the cemetery board in that time," Lawrence ecplained. "So, I feel like I have a unique perspective to offer the community, and will be an asset for the board."
