Wildfire management open house sessions scheduled
COFMS will offer open houses in both Prineville and Mitchell

For those who are curious about wildland fire management and want to better understand how local agencies work together to manage wildland fire on federal lands, while also providing protection for private land and property, a COFMS pre-season open house is available twice next week.
Central Oregon Fire Management Services (COFMS), which includes the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management, in cooperation with the Oregon Department of Forestry, is offering the general public two opportunities to visit with senior leadership and fire managers to learn about a variety of fire management topics, including fire prevention and readiness, detection, suppression, aviation resources, fuels management, lessons learned from the Bridge Creek Fire, protection of state and private lands, creating defensible space, Rangeland Fire Protection Associations, and wildland fire policy.
Both open houses -- hosted in the towns of Mitchell and Prineville -- will offer short presentations, visual displays, and opportunities to visit with local managers and ask questions about the fire program.
The open houses are informal gatherings designed to enhance information sharing with local communities while providing current knowledge about wildland fire management and interagency teamwork.
Open house sessions will take place at Mitchell Community Hall on Monday, June 22, at 6:30 p.m., and the Ochoco National Forest Supervisor's Office, 3160 NE 3rd St. in Prineville, on Thursday June 25, beginning at 6 p.m.
