Elsie Goins

Elsie Mae Goins, a Fossil resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at her home, with her family by her side after a long struggle with illness. She was 74 years of age.

A celebration will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Fossil United Methodist Church. Pastor Pearl Whistler will officiate. A reception will follow for all family and friends. A private inurement will be held at 3 Point Cemetery in Fossil.

Elsie was born in Portland, Ore. on Feb. 27, 1937, to Thomas Elwood and Doris

Mae (Porth) Graham.

She attended and graduated from Girls Polytechnic High, in Portland, in 1955. She married Gary Neal Goins in Portland on Feb. 18, 1956. Elsie worked as a school cook at Sam Barlow High School in Gresham, Ore., for more than 27 years. She retired in 1996 and moved to Winlock, on their 3 Point Ranch, where she loved to live. Soon after moving to the Ranch, Elsie knew everyone around. Elsie loved the outdoors, especially fishing and camping all over Oregon. Elsie was a leader for the Cub Scouts, 4–H, Girl Scouts, and helped start the Wheeler County volunteer Fire Department. She was very active in the Wheeler County Fair. Elsie was Grand Marshall of the Wheeler County Fair in 2008. Elsie enjoyed knitting. She was very active with the prayer group in Spray, and church was very important to her. She was also an active member of the Fossil Methodist Church.

Elsie is survived by her husband; Gary Goins of Fossil; one son, Jeffrey Goins and his wife Lora of Gresham, Ore.; two daughters, Penny Moon and her husband Dave of Fossil, and Judith Kieser and her husband Kevin of Gresham, Ore.; one brother Bill Graham of Newberg, Ore., one sister, Joyce Wilson of Warrenton, Ore.; six grandchildren; and four great -grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
