Larry W. Stephens passed away Nov. 16, 2009, at his home in Prineville, Ore. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Whispering Pines Funeral Home Chapel.
Larry was born to Vern and Dorothy (Shallen-barger) Stephens on May 16, 1935, in Cambridge, Idaho.
The family moved to Prineville in the early 1940s, where Larry lived, until he enlisted in the Navy, serving from 1952 to 1956.
He lived in La Grande, Ore., for nine years, where he was employed by Boise Cascade. Larry came back to Prineville and was employed with Clear Pine Moulding, where he retired from in 1997.
He married Maxine (Meachem) Stephens in 1978, in Reno, Nev.
Larry loved camping, fishing and hunting, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. Very seldom did Larry go camping or on a vacation without one or more of his grandkids. He enjoyed getting together with family for gatherings and holidays.
Larry was a long time member of the American Legion and the Eagles Lodge in Prineville.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maxine Stephens of Prineville; three brothers, Wally (Shirley) Stephens of LaGrande, Ore., Dale (Ann) Stephens of Boise Idaho, and Chuck (Vi) Stephens of San Antonio Texas; one sister, Pat (Jim) Smith of South Carolina; four daughters, Brenda (Lee) Romine, Darla Reynvaan, and Sharon Reynvaan, all of Prineville, and Karen Reynvaan of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Jamie (Neil) Schlosser, Michael Owen, Jamie (Sean) Vaughan, Katie Romine, Shawn (Kelly) Petty, Kelli Christman, Kyle Young, Stefanie Swan, Colby, Casey, and Marlissa Fite, Sara Nelson, and Jennifer Jacobson; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his son, Rick Stephens, parents, Vern and Dorothy Stephens, and brother Gary Stephens.
