John Jess Meek, 73 of Prineville, passed away Jan. 8, 2012. In accordance with his wishes, no service will be held.
John was born Dec. 17, 1938 in Pensacola, Fla. to George and Ruth (Irby) Meek. He graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas; he then went on to receive his Masters Degree from the University of Oregon. John worked at Pioneer Museum in Longmont, Colo.; John J. French Museum in Beaumont, Texas; John Conner Museum on the Texas A and M Campus in Kingsville, Texas; Corpus Christi Museum of Science and Industry then the Oregon Trail Regional Museum in Baker City, Ore. John married Sammie Savage Stephen on August 13, 1986 in Bishop, Texas.
John enjoyed making jewelry, art history, reading, writing, traveling, eating out and spending time with his family.
John is survived by his wife Sammie Joy Meek of Prineville, Ore.; daughter Jessica Scull of Hebron, ND; step-son Shawn Stephen of Pensacola, Fla.; step-daughter Shan Nevils of Jersey Village, Texas; step-daughter Sheena Patnaude of Austin, Texas; of step-son Shealan Stephen of Virginia Beach, Va. and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Ruth Meek.
