Voy “Doug” Douglas Powell, a Prineville resident, passed away on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009. He was 54 years old.
A private memorial will be held Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at 2 p.m., at the Missionary Baptist Church in Prineville.
Doug was born in Redmond, Ore., on June 1, 1955, to Voy Edward and Edna Juanita (Smalling) Powell.
He grew up in Prineville, attending Crooked River Grade School, Jr. High, and Crook County High School, graduating in 1973. After high school he joined the U.S. Army. After the military, he attended college to learn a trade in the electrical field.
Doug moved to Philomath in the late 1980s. He also worked and lived for awhile in Long Creek, Ore., and also Monument, Ore., working as a millwright.
He married Wilma Jean Acord in Winnemucca, Nev., on March 13, 1981. They later divorced.
He later married Carol Belle Daubenspeck, in Corvallis, on March 16, 1991. She passed away in 2005.
He moved back to Prineville in 2006 from Newport, where he worked as a fisherman, working for Tradewinds and several charter boats.
He attended various churches in Prineville, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping.
Doug is survived by his parents, Edward Powell and Edna Hodnett of Prineville; his daughters, Emma Jean and her husband Cody Reynolds of Prineville, and Juanita Jeanette Caprotta of Mountain View, Calif.; brother, Larry Powell of Prineville; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Carol.
