Blanche Winifred McKay, a Prineville resident, passed away on Monday, Aug. 9, 2010. She was 98 years old.
A viewing will be held on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at Prineville Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m., and again on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Prineville Funeral Home. Pastor Roger Landers, of the Church of the Nazarene, in Prineville, will officiate.
Graveside services will be held Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at 10 a.m., at Juniper Haven Cemetery. Reception at Prineville Funeral Home Fellowship Room will follow the services.
Blanche was born in Millersburg, Ore. on March 21, 1912, to Charles and Jenny Winifred (Robinson) Phillippi.
She was raised in Portland, Ore. and in Coos Bay, Ore., and attended schools there..
She married Alvin Chard in Portland, and he preceded her in death. She later married Clayton Jones in St. Helens, Ore., and he also preceded her. Lastly, she married Harley McKay in Redmond, and he preceded her on Dec. 30, 2000.
After her first marriage, she moved to St. Helens, and later she lived in Coos Bay where she was known as Blanche Jones. She raised her family in Coos Bay and lived there from 1943 to 1977. She moved to Redmond in 1977, and then to Prineville in 1983.
Blanche loved her church, and enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping. She was well known for her wonderful sense of humor. She played the organ and piano in Church and was also a Sunday School teacher, and was a member and volunteered and raised her children in the Salvation Army in Coos Bay. Blanche loved to dance to the 30s and 40s music and ballroom. She loved cooking, especially making fudge, fried chicken, and blackberry cobbler. She was a member of the Nazarene Church and attended the Prineville Church of God.
Blanche is survived by her four daughters, Yvonne Rae and her husband Ted Robinson of Olympia, Wash., Colleen Marie Hudson of Prineville, Ann Bowman of Coos Bay, Ore., and Louise Baldwin of Prineville; 14 grandchildren; 31 great- grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, three brothers, one sister, and one son-in-law “Gordon.”
