Sylvia Engel

Sylvia Jewel Engel died May 9, 2008.
She was born on September 23, 1915, the daughter of William and Emily Huggins in Bolivar, Missouri. She was raised on a farm with her brothers John Richard Huggins, Jack Alfred Huggins and her sister Mary Elizabeth Huggins Abel.
She married Norton William Engel on May 25, 1938 in Hanford, California, and adopted his son Leroy Wallace Engel as her own. Together, they had Barbara Maxine (Engel) Beierle, and raised them both in the San Jose area. Jewel loved life and her family. She was a great fisherman, and enjoyed being with her family and doing things outdoors with them. She also enjoyed working with her hands and made many heirloom quilts. She will be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sister, husband and children. Her husband Norton William Engel passed on February 29, 1996, daughter Barbara Maxine Engel Beierle passed on March 18, 1997 and son Leroy Wallace Engel passed on November 27, 1997.
On May 9, 2008 she went to sleep in death and left behind four grandchildren, Leroy's son Valan Wynn Engel, Barbara's children, Robert Daniel Beierle, Richard Trent Beierle and Brandi Renee (Beierle) Haller along with nine great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
A private family remembrance will be held at a later date in Prineville. She will be laid to rest in the Oak Hill Cemetery in San Jose, California. To leave an on-line condolence go to www.dallastribute.com.
The Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center is handling the arrangements.
