Daniel Deforest Lever was born in 1934 and passed away in 2009.
He was the son of Henry Lever. He was a veteran of the Korean War era. He played on the 1952 Prineville state champion team and played football at Linfield from 1956 to 1959, lettering in 59.
After graduating from Linfied he pursued a career in teaching and coaching. He took his first teaching and coaching job at Madras high school from 1960 to 1963 as an assistant, and assumed head coach duties in 1964.
He took another assistant job in fall of 1965 through 1968, assuming head coach duties from 1969 to 1975. He was also the head wrestling coach at Madras from 1960 to 1964. He was an assistant at Newberg from 1969 to 1977, winning the state title in 1970 alongside Oregon wrestling hall of fame coach Pete Russo.
Dan was a longtime Linfield supporter and avid outdoorsman. He is survived by wife Joanna Lever (class of 1960); sons, Dan, Jon; and daughter Carriejo.
Dan was also the proud grandfather of Daniel (class of 09), Catherine, Margaret, Julia, Joanna, and Jon.
Memorial services were held Nov. 4th at United Methodist Church in Newberg Oregon at 5 p.m. and was open to all.
