Donnie Carter

Donnie Ray Carter, 67, of Prineville, Ore., passed away Oct. 28, 2009.

No service will be held at this time. Services will be announced during the spring of 2010 and will be held in Fossil, Ore.

Donnie was born on June 24, 1942 in Port Lavaca, Tex., to Felix Edgar and Mildred

Margarite (Nunley) Carter. He graduated high school in Port Lavaca, Tex. After school he worked for Alcoa Aluminum. He moved to Imnaha in the late 1960s. He was in the Army National Guard in Idaho from 1963 and discharged in 1967. He then entered the Army Reserves and remained with his unit until 1969 at which time he gained an honorable discharge. He moved to Fossil where he became a trapper in 1971 until 1980. Donnie then ventured on to Alaska, where he got a job driving a truck to Prudhoe Bay. He did this until 1985. He moved back to Fossil and worked various jobs until 1992 at which time he moved to Prineville and started “Carters BBQ” which is now “Toni’s BBQ”. Donnie drove log trucks for Gillen Logging until he retired in 2004.

His hobbies included: Hunting, fishing and trapping, and acting as a guide for the John Day River in Wheeler County.

Donnie is survived by his son Scott Carter of Ione, Ore.; daughter Karen Dike of Irrigon, Ore.; brothers Gerald and Leon Carter, sister Franceal Machacek all of Port Lavaca, Tex.; ex-wife and most trusted friend Carolyn Carter of Boardman, Ore.; granddaughter Kaitlynn, grandsons Austin, Tyler and Blake.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
