Alvin Brown

Alvin Earl Brown of Dayville, Ore., was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Tygh Valley, Ore. He passed away March 7, 2010 at the age of 87.

A graveside service and burial will take place at Dayville Cemetery, on Saturday, March 13, at 11 a.m.

Alvin attended Dufur High School, graduating in 1939, then going to work as a rancher.

Alvin married Maggie Jones in Dufur, Ore., on Aug. 31, 1939.

He was a 4-H leader for more than 20 years. He served on the Dayville School Board for 20 years. He was one of the first ranchers to bring black angus cattle back into eastern Oregon, and earned numerous awards from the county, state and federal government during the past 60 years of ranching.

Alvin enjoyed his job, as well as hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his son, Michael Brown of Powell Butte; daughter, Sallee Decker of Beaverton, Ore.; brother Barney Brown of Tygh Valley, Ore.; grandsons, Lance, Sean, Tanner and Bodie Brown of Prineville; granddaughters, Lindsay Brown of Prineville, and Vicki Kirchnavy of Redmond; and four great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Maggie Brown, son Dick Brown, and grandson Shane Brown.
