No Guts, No Glory
Pendleton man wins top bull riding honors
Photo: news
ANDREW MATHESON/CENTRAL OREGONIAN
Chase Skidgel of Redmond hangs on during the “No Guts, No Glory” bull riding competition held this past weekend at the Crook County Fairgrounds.

Pendleton's Joe Meling walked away $2,900 richer on Saturday night at the No Guts, No Glory Bull Riding rodeo at the Crook County Fairgrounds.
Meling was the average winner on two heads after performances on Friday and Saturday night in Prineville, combining for a score of 173.
Meling's score was just three points better than Charlie Barker of Redmond, who tied for fourth place at last year's bull riding event. Barker scored a 170 average on two heads.
"Saturday night was the best bull riding," said Cobey Goodman, production manager for the rodeo. "If you didn't like Saturday night's bull riding, you don't like bull riding."
Rounding out the top four finishers included Ned Cross of Midland with an average score of 169, and fourth-place finisher Jesse Belyea of Hermiston with an average score of 167.5.
Bulls for the rodeo were provided by Kelly Wilcott of the Gold Buckle Rodeo Company, as well as Dave Belyea.
The No Guts, No Glory Bull Riding rodeo, now in its fifth year, is part of the Wild West Event Series, and cowboys will compete next at the Hoof 'N Holler Bull Riding at the Linn County Fairgrounds in Albany on New Year's Eve.
