By Lon Austin The Crook County High School boys golf team fired a season best 322 in the first round of the district golf tournament Monday to take sixth place going into the final round of the tournament today. "We had four golfers PR (set personal records)," said Head Coach Chuck Wilcox. ""We played pretty well today. We ground it out and are in the middle of the pack. Hopefully we will come out and try to do the same thing tomorrow and keep our position or maybe even move up. I was happy with our performance today and four PRs tells me that they are not just going to give up and that they have a little pride." Caleb Henry had the low round for the Cowboys on Monday, firing a 76 for the first round of his career under 80. Matt York shot an 80 for the Cowboys while Jake Shinkle shot an 82, Daniel Teater had an 83 and Jared George fired an 85. Andrew Vijarro of Bend and Damian Telles of The Dalles/Wahtonka are tied for first place individually after shooting 68's on Monday. In team scoring, Bend is in first place after shooting a 283 while The Dalles/Wahtonka is in second with a 293. Summit and Pendleton are tied for third place after each shot a 298. Hermiston is in fifth place with a 309 followed by the Cowboys and then Madras with a 333 and Mountain View, which shot a 339. "I am excited for my boys," said Wilcox. "They were pretty happy and you know they are having fun. They are going bowling and they went out and ate and they are going to go swimming. They are just having a good time together and that is the most important thing; that they have a good time and remember these times." |
