Lack of depth continues to hurt the Crook County High School girls tennis squad.
Tuesday afternoon, the team fell 6-2 to the Redmond Panthers. Crook County won both the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles matches, but that was it as the Panthers took the four remaining matches that were contested.
Redmond also earned a pair of wins by forfeit.
Elsa Harris continued to dominate her opponents, taking a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kendall Marshall at No. 1 singles.
Ali Apperson and Annie Fraser started slowly, but managed to outlast Redmond’s Charli Chalker and Miranda Schmidt for Crook?County’s only other victory.
Apperson and Fraser dropped the first set of their No. 1 doubles match 1-6. However, the duo rebounded to take the second set 6-2, then earned a 10-5 win in the deciding tiebreaker.
Redmond easily won all three remaining singles matches. First, Jessica Brunot knocked off Jackie Nelson 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Alex Steller followed up with an equally easy 6-2, 6-1 win over Tiffany Puckett at No. 3 singles. Then Leah Murphy closed out the singles matches with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Crook County’s Katie Slawter.
In the only other match that was played, Redmond’s Alexsis James and Johanna Bailey took a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Crook County’s Jordan Rutz and Harli Bowers at No. 2 doubles.
With Crook County unable to field a complete team, Redmond earned forfeits in the remaining two doubles matches.
Crook County played at Ridgeview on Thursday. The team is on the road again Friday and Saturday as they travel to Ontario for the two-day Treasure Valley Community College Invitational.
