The Crook County High School baseball team dropped a pair of games at The Dalles/Wahtonka on Friday, falling 8-0 and 7-2 to the Eagle/Indians.
"As a whole I thought that we did two of three things very well," said Head Coach Chris Felton. "I thought we played defense and pitched well enough to keep us in the game and give us opportunities. Offensively we just couldn't get anything going in the two games."
Zach Close pitched a complete game for the Cowboys in game one, giving up 12 hits and five earned runs.
"I was very pleased with Close," Felton said. "He showed great mound presence and a maturity about himself that we haven't seen before. He had good command of his pitches and was able to take control of the hitters rather than letting the hitters have control of him.
Parker Wooldridge pitched the first four innings of game two giving up six runs in the fourth innings before being replaced by Mike Haring who pitched the remainder of the game. The Dalles/Wahtonka had nine hits in game two and all seven of their runs were earned.
Close and Haring were the only two batters to have multiple hits for the Cowboys as they both went two-for-six for the two games. As a team Crook County had three hits in game one and four hits in game two.
With the losses the Cowboys fall to 1-11 in the Intermountain Conference and 2-19 overall while The Dalles/Wahtonka moves to 8-5 in league and 13-10 overall.
The Cowboys have two games remaining in their season, facing Mountain View at Home on Tuesday beginning at 4:30 p.m. then playing Bend, also at home on Thursday to close out the year.
