Leading into the district golf tournament next Monday and Tuesday the Crook County High School girls golf team finished the regular season with a pair of strong showings.
The Cowgirls played at Crosswater on Tuesday, finishing a close second to Bend High School with a score of 375 to 369 for the Lava Bears.
"It was playing very tough," said Head Coach Grant Patterson. "It is the longest course we played all season and the conditions weren't the best. The wind blew 20-25 miles an hour along with a snow squall."
West Albany finished third shooting a 379, while Summit was fourth with a 399.
Sarah Crofcheck shot the low round for the Cowgirls with a 90, while JoBeth Hamon shot a 91 and Kersey Wilcox fired a 92. Cami Williams rounded out the Cowgirls scoring with a 102, while Rachel Kelso shot a 110.
"Kelso got into one of those golf funks that all of us can have sometimes, but Williams played well and Wilcox played really solid," said Patterson. "In comparison to other courses I would have to say that it was her best round."
Patterson also noted that Crofcheck shot an eight on the last hole or she would have been in the 80s.
"I'm very pleased with the results and how they performed," said Patterson. "Our girls just played tough and worked through the conditions."
On Thursday, in their final tune-up before district, the Cowgirls finished in third place at the Sisters Invitational at Aspen Lakes Golf Course. The Cowgirls shot a 361, while Bend won by shooting a 349 and Sisters was second with a 353.
Sarah Crofcheck placed second overall, shooting a career best 82 for the day. JoBeth Hamon also had a good day shooting an 89, while Kersey Wilcox and Cami Williams each shot 95s. Rachel Kelso rounded out the Cowgirls day with a 104.
The Cowgirls will host district on Monday and Tuesday at Meadow Lakes Golf Course in Prineville. With the top two teams in the league going to state, the Cowgirls are looking for a spot in the state tournament. Crook County, Summit and Bend have been battling each other all season and the tournament berths should go to two of those three teams.
"It is going to come down to: we have got to play well for two days at district," said Patterson. "I am confident that the girls are all playing pretty well right now." |
