After leading the Crook County Cowgirls to the first round of the state playoffs, Brooke Buswell has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Clackamas Community College.

“I can’t wait,” Buswell said. “We don’t go to school until the end of August, but we already started workouts.”

Buswell, who led the Cowgirls in scoring and assists last season, averaged nearly 20 points and five assists a game during the second half of the year.

Clackamas Community College competes in the southern region of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges. The southern region includes Southwestern Oregon, Chemeketa, Linn-Benton, Lane, Umpqua, and Portland community colleges. The NWAACC has 34 member schools.

Clackamas Community College finished the 2011-2012 season with a 25-5 record and finished in fifth place at the NWAACC championship tournament.

Buswell, who plans on majoring in biology, said that in order to get ready for the season, she has been lifting weights four days a week, as well as doing cardio workouts and shooting and ball handling drills.”

“I like the coaching staff, the team, and the school’s location as well,” Buswell said. “I’m really excited for the chance to play.”
