Cowboys blanked by CougarsMountain View rolls past Crook County 13-0 in IMC opener
Crook County goalkeeper, Christian Nunez, makes a stop during the second half of the Cowboys 13-0 loss to the Mountain View Cougars last Thursday afternoon. September 24, 2012 The Mountain View Cougars scored early and often as they rolled to a 13-0 victory over Crook County in the Intermountain Conference boys soccer opener for both teams. The Cougars scored their first goal just two minutes into the game, which was played last Thursday in Prineville. They added another goal less than a minute later, and had their third goal just five minutes into the match. “I want to keep focusing on this team and be good in the future,” Crook County head coach Joel Carrillo said of his team following the match. The Cowboys have just two seniors on their roster, and are currently starting seven freshmen. As a result the team is currently going through growing pains. However, Carrillo is confident that the team is improving. “We will work hard to fix some of the mistakes,” he said. “We are working hard every day to get better and we will challenge them in the future.” Mountain View was able to build an 8-0 halftime lead. For much of the second half the Cougars moved players to new positions and worked on ball control. Still the Cougars were able to score six more goals in the second half. Finally with just over 12 minutes left in the contest, the Cougars began to pull players off the field, finishing the contest with just nine players on the field. Takuro Nihei scored four goals for the Cougars, while Zach Emerson added a pair of goals and three assists. The Cougars also had one goal apiece from Clayton Crenshaw, Wyatt Law, Diego Martinez, Phillip Orellana, Bryce Tipton, Jacob Trask, and Taylor Willman. The victory was the first of the season for Mountain View, which is currently 1-3-1. Meanwhile the Cowboys fell to 1-3. Crook County will host Bend Senior High beginning at 3 p.m. today. The team is back in action on Thursday when they go on the road to take on the Redmond Panthers in a contest that is also scheduled for 3 p.m. |
