Larry Alfred McFadden of Prineville left this life on Sept. 18, 2012.
He was very proud of his Pawnee/Irish heritage and he loved to sing Irish songs. He was born in Washington to Emmitt Alfred McFadden and Virginia (Pitts) McFadden.
After high school, he joined the Army and was part of the Engineers. He served for seven years, encompassing Laos where he was wounded — Germany, Greenland, and both the west and the east coast of the United States where he worked on missile sites.
After two honorary discharges, he decided he really enjoyed good food, so he became a cook and ultimately a chef. He was well-known at good restaurants in Lincoln City, Ore. and Newport, Ore.
As Larry was physically unable to hunt and fish in later years, he enjoyed fixing things, refurbishing furniture and going to garage sales.
After many years, Larry returned to the Prineville area where he grew up.
He is survived by his special companion, Len Lafky of Prineville; his half-brother, Jerry Callan of Prineville; his half-sister, Samantha Langley of Portland, Ore.; two daughters, Darlene and Shawena; three sons, Trevanion III, William, and Donovan; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Per Larry’s wishes, no services will be held. He will be buried at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore.
