Special District I all-league volleyball team selected

Crook County has five players named to first team

The Special District I?all-league volleyball team has been selected and Crook County athletes dominated the selection process.

The Cowgirls, who went undefeated in both Special District I and the Intermountain Hybrid Conference, had four players named first team all-league as well as the player of the year.

Middle blocker Makayla Lindburg led the way, earning player of the year honors. Lindburg averaged more than 15 kills a match throughout the season. Also selected to the first team were outside hitter Hannah Troutman, outside hitter Annie Fraser, middle blocker Karlee Hollis, and setter Kayla Hamilton.

Ridgeview middle blocker Katrina Johnson, setter Rhiana Sage, and libero Katie Nurge were also named to the first team.

Crook County athletes selected to the all-league second team include defensive specialist Ali Apperson, middle blocker Kathryn Kaonis, and libero Laken Berlin.

The final three players selected to the all-league second team were all from Ridgeview. They included outside hitters Briana Yeakey, and Kayla Jackson and defensive specialist Kaci Sage.

Ridgeview coach Debi Dewey was named conference coach of the year.

State Volleyball tournament information

The following teams have qualified for the Class 4A state volleyball tournament. The state championships will be held on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10, at Lane Community College in Eugene. Friday’s quarterfinal matchups are as follows:

• Elmira vs Crook County 1:15 p.m.

• Madras vs La Grande 1:15 p.m.

• Phoenix vs Banks 3:15 p.m.

• Astoria vs Sisters 3:15 p.m.

The semifinals will pit the winner of Elmira and Crook County vs the winner of Madras and La Grande, and the winner of the Phoenix vs Banks contest against the winner of the game between Astoria and Sisters. Both games are scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m.

Consolation rounds begin at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Nov.10, with the championship match scheduled for 8:30 p.m., Saturday night. In addition to the Class 4A?championships, the Class 3A competition will also be held at Lane Community College. Class 3A games begin at 8 a.m., both Friday and Saturday
