Kody DixonNovember 08, 2012 Kody Ryan Dixon, 21, fought a long, hard battle against cancer, but lost that battle Oct. 30, 2012, in Prineville. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Crook County High School Auditorium in Prineville. A reception will follow at the Country Club in Prineville. Kody was born March 4, 1991, in Madras, to Shawnel Dee Dixon, where he joined his big sister Krista. At age eight, he was adopted by Kim and Tracey Dixon, where he joined two more big sisters, Rachelle and Brie, and a younger brother, Jared. Kody attended K-second grade at Madras Elementary; he then attended Crook County Christian School third through eighth grade. He participated in t-ball (in Jefferson and Crook County), soccer, Little League, football, Mat Club and was a four-year member of the Crook County varsity wrestling team. In 2009, he graduated from Crook County High School. He then attended the welding certification program at Central Oregon Community College until his diagnosis of cancer on Christmas break of that year. He met his wife Chelsie while living in Redmond. In November 2011, they had their daughter, Destiny. Kody and Chelsie were married in April of this year. Kody enjoyed hunting and sports activities such as baseball, football, wrestling, and golf. His other hobbies included skateboarding, riding dirt bikes, and spending time with family and friends. He was especially fond of his daughter and watching her grow. Kody is survived by his wife, Chelsie Dixon; daughter, Destiny Dixon; his parents, Kim and Tracey Dixon; sister, Rachelle and husband Aj Hurt — all of Prineville; brother, Jared and wife Arika Dixon of Bend; sisters, Krista Penaloza of Madras, and Brie Jumping Bull of Portland, Ore.; grandparents, Chuck and Cheryl Kissler of Madras, and Dean and Mary Lou Gertner of Prineville; and great-grandfather, John Hinkle of Madras; eight nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Margaret Hinkle, grandfather, Fred Dixon, mother, Shawnel Dixon and Uncle, Kiley Dixon. Memorial contributions may be made to Partners in Care of Bend; Pioneer Memorial Hospice; Crook County Relay for Life; Crook County wrestling; or any cancer research foundation of your choice.
