Loggers rate season a success
Team finishes in mid-pack in the High Desert League
Mitchell’s Jordan Apperson was named honorable mention all-league in volleyball by the High Desert League.

The Mitchell Loggers had high hopes when the 2012 volleyball season started.
The Loggers reached the district playoffs in 2011 for the first time in several years and had a solid core of players returning.
Unfortunately, the team finished one spot short of earning a High Desert League playoff spot.
Still, according to head coach Sandy Goodson, the team had a lot to be proud of.
"I think the girls had a great season this year," Goodson said. "They improved so much."
The Loggers finished the season with a 6-7 overall record while going 4-6 in league play.
The record was good enough for seventh-place in the 11-team league.
Middle blocker Jordan Apperson was the only player on the team to earn all-league recognition, earning honorable mention recognition.
"Jordan is a good all-around player," said Goodson. "She worked hard all season."
Also making major contributions to the team this year were senior setters Jenay Apperson and Farrell Fox. Fellow seniors Jenna Perry-Zapara and Brandy Titus also played important roles on this year's squad.
"Those seniors will be missed," Goodson said. "They are all outstanding players."
The Loggers were in playoff contention until dropping three consecutive matches late in the season. However, the team rebounded to win their final two matches of the season and end the year in style.
"I'm really proud of the girls and what they accomplished this year," Goodson said.
Goodson believes that next year may be difficult for the Loggers. Although the team loses just four players to graduation, just three of the remaining players on the roster are from Mitchell. As a result, Goodson is unsure if any of the other players will be back.
"Next year is going to be a tough year," she said. "It's going to be starting over."
