Saints defeat Loggers 43-32Trinity Lutheran uses big fourth quarter to earn victoryDecember 17, 2012 After leading for much of the contest, the Mitchell Logger girls basketball team stumbled in the fourth quarter as the Trinity Lutheran Saints came from behind to take a 43-32 victory. “We did a good job throughout the game of getting the ball inside and getting to the free throw line,” said Mitchell basketball coach Tim Foster. “I think we just got tired in the fourth quarter. We didn’t see open people and forced the ball into bad situations.” The two teams were tied 8-8 at the end of the first period. The Loggers seemingly took control in the second quarter as they outscored the Saints 9-3 in the period to take a 17-11 halftime lead. Mitchell clung to a 23-20 lead at the end of the third period before Trinity Lutheran exploded for 23 fourth-quarter points to take control of the game. “It was a rough eight minutes,” Foster said. “Defensively, we didn’t have a chance to do much because they scored on a lot of fast breaks. Hopefully we learn from it and have the focus to avoid these kind of struggles going forward. Miranda Holt led the Loggers in scoring with 12 while Farrell Fox added nine. With the win, Trinity Lutheran raised their record to 3-2 while Mitchell fell to 0-4. December 11 at Mitchell Trinity Lutheran 8 3 9 23 — 43 Mitchell 8 9 6 9 — 32 |
