David Wallace Eckman

David Wallace Eckman, a Prineville resident, passed away on Jan. 13, 2013, at his home in Prineville. He was 83 years old.

David was born in Geddes, S.D., on Jan. 7, 1930, to William and Lela Eckman. He attended and graduated from Sandpoint High School, and entered the Army in April 1951. He served in the Korean War, ERC Artillery Branch.

David met the love of his life, Marjorie Burgess, in Sandpoint, Idaho, at a Sadie Hawkins dance.

He was a member of the BPOE 358 Heppner, Ore., and IWA.

David worked for 23 years at the Kinzua Corporation in Heppner, and eight years at Pine Products in Prineville.

He was an avid fisherman and bowler.

David is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Eckman of Prineville; children, Linda Hays of West Linn, Ore., David Jr. (Deana) of Pendleton, Ore., Kenneth (Lana) of Heppner, Ore., and Robert (Kathy) of Prineville; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by son-in-law, Daniel R. Hays; parents, William W. and Lela Eckman; brother, Thomas Eckman; and sisters, Dee Pederson, Vera Mason, and Betty Eckman.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association and Pioneer Memorial Hospice.

A memorial service will be held at Prineville Funeral Home, on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at 1 p.m. A reception will be held at Meadow Lakes following the service.
