Howard Wayne RiceFebruary 07, 2013 Howard Wayne Rice, 86, passed away Jan. 29, 2013 in Prineville, Ore. At Howards request there will be no services. Howard was born Oct. 25, 1926 in Wichita, Kan. to Earl and Mary Rice. Howard was a Veteran of the Korean War where he received the Metal of Courage, the Purple Heart, and a Honorable Discharge. After being released from the military, Howard went to Idaho where he worked in the mines and did some logging, until he moved back to Cherryvale, Kan. where he met and married Naomi Lavonne Oyler on July 17, 1953 in Neodosh, Kan. He worked in the flour mills until he moved the family to Kinzua, Ore. in 1962, where he worked for the Kinzua Corporation until the mill shut down in 1978. Howard moved to the Prineville area in 1979 where he worked at Clear Pine Mouldings until he retired in 1981. Howard enjoyed reading, watching old western movies, gardening, going to yard sales where he was always finding that special item and meeting new people. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his son Michael Wayne Rice and wife Pamela of Klamath Falls, Ore.; daughter Linda (Rice) Conklin and husband Larry of Prineville; granddaughter Lindsay of Klamath Falls; grandsons Dustin Conklin and wife Lacey, Shane Conklin and wife Amanda of Bend, Ore.; great-granddaughter Naomi Jo, Sienna and Mariyah; great-randsons, Maguire, Tyson and Thomas. Howard was preceded in death by his mother- Mary Elizabeth Breese, father, Earl Rice and his wife Naomi Lavonne Rice. Whispering Pines Funeral Home is in charge of these arrangements. 541-416-9733 |
