Cowgirls blasted by Falcons

La Salle Prep wins ninth game in a row as they roll to 82-39 victory

February 11, 2013

The La Salle Prep Falcons were in control from the opening tip as they blasted the Crook County Cowgirls 82-39 Saturday night.

“La Salle is a good team — a highly-ranked team,” said Crook County head coach Dave Johnson. “They shot the ball well and were able to make some runs on us.”

The Falcons used full-court pressure to force numerous Crook County turnovers in the contest. The high-flying Falcons were able to take advantage of the Crook County miscues to score easy baskets and quickly turned the game into a rout.

La Salle led 20-11 at the end of the first period before exploding for 27 second-quarter points. The Cowgirls were unable to keep pace as the Falcons took a 47-19 lead into the half.

La Salle extended their lead to 64-27 by the end of the third period, before coasting to the easy win.

Not only did the Falcon press generate easy baskets, the team was also able to shoot the ball well from outside, hitting eight three-point goals in the contest.

Kimmer Severance led the Cowgirls’ offense with 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Michaeline Malott was also in double figures with 11 points, while Ali Apperson grabbed five rebounds in the contest.

La Salle Prep has now won nine games in a row and has an impressive 18-3 overall record. The Falcons, from Milwaukie, are ranked third in the current Class 4A power rankings, and are 7-0 in the Tri-Valley League.

Meanwhile, the Cowgirls, losers of three in a row, have fallen to 9-11 on the year.

The Cowgirls are at home tonight when they take on the Bend Lava Bears (14-5). The Lava Bears have already defeated the Cowgirls twice this year, including a 77-29 drubbing in their last meeting.

Crook County returns to the road on Friday when they travel to Redmond to take on the Panthers (9-12). Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
