Dorothy Schnoor

Dorothy Schnoor, 96, of Prineville passed away Saturday Feb. 16, due to age-related complications, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and John Morgan.

Dorothy was born Aug. 18, 1916 in Belgrade, Mont. to Michael B. Wittmer and Madeline (Bachman) Wittmer. The family lived in several locations throughout the Western United States before settling in Prineville in 1934. Dorothy was married to Art Schnoor who preceded her in death in 1963. In Prineville, Dorothy put down solid roots. Both with her husband and after his death, she operated the Independent Market and a ranch just east of Prineville. Throughout her life she enjoyed the support of family as her primary social circle and business partners. Upon retirement from the Market in 1974 she pursed her greatest joy “Family”. She was a grandmother beyond compare. She enjoyed being home and stayed busy taking care of her yard and entertaining family in the summer while spending winters reading, doing needlepoint, and cooking the best meals a well traveled son has ever eaten.

Dorothy was an active member of the Prineville, LDS Church.

Dorothy is survived by her three married children, Betty Howard of Prineville, Peggy Morgan of Prineville, and John Schnoor of Boise, Idaho. In addition, she is survived and was enjoyed by 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She will be missed.

Arrangements are through Whispering Pines Funeral Home. Services will be Friday, Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. at the Prineville Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Dorothy’s name to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oregon at 503-802-7803.
