Wanda Lee Hargis

Wanda Lee Hargis passed away Friday Feb. 15 at St. Charles Medical Center, in Redmond, Ore. Services will be Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at Whispering Pines Funeral Home. A viewing will be held there on Friday evening from 4 to 7 p.m.

Wanda was born to Ernest and Maude Weber at the family home on Oct. 16, 1922 in Garden Valley, just outside of Roseburg, Ore. Wanda graduated from Roseburg High School and worked for Bell Telephone during World War II. Wanda corresponded during the war with Gene Hargis and they were married on Aug. 6, 1946, and were together for 65 years. After they were married, Wanda and Gene built a new home in Dixonville just outside of Roseburg, then later moved to Powell Butte, buying a ranch there.

Wanda and Gene enjoyed traveling in their RV during their retirement.Wanda spent most of her life as a loving wife, mother, homemaker and was well known for her baking and cooking skills.

Wanda’s hobbies included, knitting, sewing, fishing with Dad, gardening, reading, and following the stock market.

Wanda is survived by her four sons; Jim (Evonne) Hargis of Oregon City, Ore., Bob (Sherry) Hargis of Cul de Sac, Idaho, Larry (Debby) Hargis of Prineville, John (Mary Lee) Hargis of Redmond, Ore; and daughter, Mary (Byron) Bonney of Florence, Mont. Wanda is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, as well as her brother, George Weber and sisters, Evelyn and Dorothy.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Hargis in 2011, her parents, a brother and sister.
