Led by Chelsea Shank, the Crook County Cowgirls took third place in Wednesday’s six-team Crooked River Ranch Invitational with a team total of 447.

Shank finished with a round of 98, while teammates Cora White (109), Caitlin Dalton (113), Sierra Smith (127), and Jessica Hollis (129) also had solid rounds for the first tournament of the year.

“All in all, I was pleased with first match,” said Crook County head coach Grant Patterson. “It was the first time out for three of the girls. Lots of nerves, but they were still smiling at the end.”

The Summit Storm, which was led by identical one-over-par rounds of 73 by Madison Odiorne and Sara Heinly, easily won the tournament with a score of 325. The Storm, which has won six of the last seven state championships, including the last four in a row, was 45 strokes better than the Runner-up Bend Lava Bears. Bend, which finished second to Summit at last year’s Class 5A?tournament had a score of 370. The Lava Bears were led by Heidi Froelich, who finished third overall with a round of 84.

Redmond, Ridgeview, and Mountain View also competed in the tournament, but were unable to field complete teams.

The Cowgirls are back in action next Wednesday when they compete in the Redmond Invitational, which is scheduled to begin at noon at Juniper Golf Course in Redmond.
